Victorian Hand Mirror with Slipper OrchidLate 19th century hand mirror with a very rare orchid design. The entire back is taken up by a paphiopedilum (slipper) orchid with a sweet little cattleya on the handle. It would have been silver plated at some point but this has worn away. Otherwise condition is excellent.
Black and white engravings throughout

Sometimes you find a thimble inside
extremely unusual turn of the century antique box carved from alabaster with a little brass spider embedded in the lid

This one has a suggestive shape and contains a profile of Mary
Condition is excellent overall with some dirt under the glass and some wear to the frame as shown

and it was prescribed liberally for every conceivable complaint in the Victorian era
