Description
Helmet MasksThe Bozo people, famous for their fishing are located predominantly along the Niger River in Mali and known as the masters of the river. They preserve a number of animist traditions and believe that objects, places and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. This pair of masks are hand carved from wood with brass details and represent a male and female. They would have traditionally been worn on the head during ceremonies.
They are extremely hard wearing as the roots from the Makenge bush allow for higher coils to be woven
Whilst their simplicity and lack of embellishment reflects their practical purpose
the beads then go through a wax process to create the final design
These containers with lids are hand-carved from indigenous wood and come with beautiful and distinct details
